This numismatic set commemorates the 500th anniversary of the founding of the sovereignty of Monaco, covering the period from 1512 to 2012. The 2 euro coin it contains was issued in 2012.
The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Lucien I Grimaldi, depicted in profile and facing left. Around the portrait, the inscription "1512 SOUVERAINETÉ DE MONACO 2012" and the name "LUCIEN 1er" can be read. The engraver of this face is Robert Prat.
The reverse of the coin features a map of the European continent. This map is superimposed on a dynamic background composed of the twelve stars that symbolize the European Union. The inscription "2 EURO LL" is also present on this face, and it was engraved by Luc Luycx.
The edge of the coin is finely milled and bears the inscription "2 **" repeated six times. This inscription alternates between upright and inverted. The coin was struck by the Paris Mint.
This bimetallic coin weighs 8.5 grams and has a diameter of 25.75 millimeters, with a thickness of 2.2 millimeters. The mintage of this edition is limited to 10,000 copies.
