The BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) Euro Spain 2021 coin set is dedicated to the Old City of Toledo, one of the most iconic sites of Spain's historical heritage, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986. This set was issued in 2021 by the Royal Spanish Mint and features a limited mintage of 12,000 copies.

Toledo, the former capital of the Visigoth Empire and later a renowned centre of coexistence between Christian, Muslim and Jewish civilisations during the Middle Ages, represents an exceptional architectural and cultural legacy. The city is home to the Primate Cathedral, the Alcázar and numerous monuments that reflect its rich multicultural history. This unique past makes Toledo an ideal subject for a commemorative numismatic issue.

The set brings together the complete range of Spanish euro coins for the year 2021, from 1 cent through to the 2 euro coin, totalling eight denominations. Each coin is struck to Brilliant Uncirculated quality, ensuring a superior level of finish compared to coins intended for general circulation, with sharp reliefs and carefully prepared surfaces.

The reverse of each coin features the common designs of the euro series, while the obverses display Spain's own motifs, including the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela on the smaller denominations, Burgos Castle on the intermediate denominations, and the portrait of King Felipe VI on the 1 and 2 euro coins, in line with the Spanish design updates introduced from 2015 onwards.

The official coin set presentation ensures optimal preservation of the coins, in packaging specifically designed to highlight the theme of the Old City of Toledo. This limited mintage makes the set of particular interest to collectors specialising in contemporary European numismatics.
