This coin is a 2 euro collector coin issued by the Vatican in 2025. It commemorates the period of the Sede Vacante, an ecclesiastical interregnum occurring during the vacancy of the pontifical seat. This theme is rarely represented in euro coin issues, which increases its interest for numismatists.

The coin is struck in bimetal. It weighs 8.5 grams and its diameter is 25.75 millimeters.

The central motif of the coin represents the coat of arms of the Cardinal Chamberlain, which is surmounted by the crossed keys of the Apostolic Chamber. A dove, symbol of the Holy Spirit, is also present, completing the composition. The mintage of this commemorative edition is limited to 76,000 copies.

It should be noted that, despite the official approval by the European Central Bank of the three commemorative issues of the Vatican for 2025, including this coin dedicated to the Sede Vacante, their initial circulation scheduled for June 2025 had not yet taken place at the beginning of 2026. This situation has raised questions within the numismatic community.
