Description

The BU Euro Greece 2020 - Lesbos coin set is an official issue of the Greek mint dated 2020, produced in a limited mintage of 10,000 pieces.

This set presents Greek euro coins in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) quality, denoting a carefully struck finish produced using polished dies, giving the coins a brilliant appearance and precise definition of the relief. The coins thus benefit from a high-quality finish, superior to that of coins intended for general circulation.

The theme of this set is dedicated to Lesbos, a Greek island in the Aegean Sea belonging to the North Aegean island group. Lesbos is the third largest island in Greece by area and is a territory with a particularly rich history, notably due to its ancient heritage. The island is renowned as the birthplace of the poetess Sappho, a major figure in ancient Greek literature, as well as the philosopher Theophrastus. In terms of natural heritage, Lesbos is home to a petrified forest listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, an exceptional geological testament spanning several million years.

The set contains all eight face values in euro, ranging from 1 cent to 2 euros, struck with the effigies specific to Greek coinage. The reverses of the Greek euro coins feature designs drawn from Hellenic history and mythology, including the Athenian owl, the Athenian trireme, and the portrait of Rigas Feraios.

With a mintage limited to 10,000 sets, this issue is aimed primarily at collectors wishing to build or complete a collection of annual euro series, or to acquire a representative piece of Greek island heritage.
