This 2 euro commemorative coin, issued by the Vatican in 2019, marks the 25th anniversary of the restoration of the Sistine Chapel. The coin is bimetallic, weighs 8.5 grams, and has a diameter of 25.75 millimeters.
The obverse of the coin features a detail from the fresco "The Last Judgment," a work by Michelangelo located in the Sistine Chapel. Specifically, the representation includes figures of Christ and the Virgin Mary. The inscriptions "CITTA' DEL VATICANO CAPPELLA SISTINA - FINE DEI RESTAURI" and the dates "1994 ? 2019" can be read, commemorating the end of the restoration work. The letter "R" is also present, possibly a mint mark, as well as the signature "D. LONGO", indicating the name of the engraver, Daniela Longo.
The reverse of the coin is common to all 2 euro coins and displays a map of the European continent superimposed on a dynamic background composed of the twelve stars of the European Union. The face value "2 EURO" is also indicated. The signature "LL" of the engraver Luc Luycx is visible.
The edge of the coin features a specific engraving: the inscription "2 *", repeated six times, with alternating orientation from bottom to top and top to bottom. The mintage of this commemorative coin is limited to 69,000 copies.
