5 Euros Commemorative Silver SAINT MARIN 2014
Theme: 25 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall
Quality: BU
Print run: 7,000 pieces.
Silver 925 ? - 18 g - 32 mm diameter
Delivered under official coincard
On the reverse of this BU ?5 coin, the inscription ?Berliner Mauer 1961-1989? stands out in the centre of the view of the Wall. In the background is the Brandenburg Gate and, on the right, the statue of the Victory Column.
Built in a single night in 1961, for 28 years the Wall opposed two conceptions of reality. Four metres high and 155 kilometres long, it represented Germany's internal border.
On 9 November 1989, the Wall was demolished with a pickaxe. Twenty-five years later, snapshots of that afternoon remain as a record of an era, a warning for the future.
The obverse of the coin depicts the coat of arms of the Republic of San Marino.
