Description

San Marino, one of the world's smallest republics and an enclave within Italian territory, issues annual series of euro coins intended for collectors. The 2018 Euro coin set dedicated to World Nature Day is part of this numismatic tradition, combining European monetary standards with an international environmental theme.

This set brings together all the euro coins struck by San Marino for the year 2018, covering the eight denominations of the current series: 1 cent, 2 cents, 5 cents, 10 cents, 20 cents, 50 cents, 1 euro and 2 euros. Each coin features on its national side the effigies or symbols specific to San Marino, in accordance with the issuance rules defined by the European Union, while the common side displays the standard eurozone designs according to denomination.

The 2018 edition stands out through its association with World Nature Day, an international event aimed at raising public awareness of the preservation of biodiversity and natural ecosystems. This theme is highlighted through the careful presentation of the official coin set.

The mintage of this set is limited to 12,000 pieces, making it a restricted-circulation issue, a common characteristic of San Marino's numismatic productions. This mintage limitation is inherent to the issuance policy of the Republic of San Marino, which deliberately produces its coins in reduced quantities, unlike the larger member states of the eurozone.

San Marino, although using the euro without being a member of the European Union, benefits from a monetary agreement allowing it to strike its own euro coins. These issues, produced in limited quantities and exclusively intended for numismatic sales, generally do not circulate in ordinary commerce, which gives them a special status within eurozone numismatics.
