This 2 euro commemorative coin, issued by the Principality of Andorra in 2020, marks the 50th anniversary of granting women the right to vote in the country.
The coin is bimetallic, with a nickel brass center and a cupronickel outer ring. It weighs 8.5 grams and has a diameter of 25.75 millimeters, with a thickness of 2.20 millimeters. The mintage of this commemorative edition is limited to 60,000 copies in brilliant uncirculated (BU) quality.
The central motif of the coin features a stylized female face. A particularity of this design lies in the composition of the strands of hair, which are formed by a multitude of female first names. This representation symbolizes the identity and diversity of Andorran women.
The year of issue, 2020, is clearly indicated on the coin, highlighting the anniversary commemorated. The edge of the coin is reeded and bears the repeated inscription of the face value, "2", followed by two stars, all alternating six times between the obverse and reverse.
The commemorated event, the introduction of the right to vote for women in Andorra, occurred in 1970, when the Council of the Land granted this right following pressure exerted in the late 1960s. However, it was not until 1973 that women also obtained the right to stand for election.
