This numismatic set includes the eight euro coin denominations issued by the Vatican in 2002, ranging from 1 cent to 2 euros. Each coin has distinctive characteristics in terms of dimensions, weight and metal composition, while sharing a common iconography.
The 1, 2 and 5 cent coins are made of copper-plated steel, giving them a characteristic reddish color. The 1 cent coin has a diameter of 16.25 mm and a weight of 2.30 grams. The 2 cent coin measures 18.75 mm in diameter and weighs 3.06 grams, while the 5 cent coin has a diameter of 21.25 mm and a weight of 3.92 grams. These three coins depict the Holy Father, John Paul II.
The 10, 20 and 50 cent coins are made of an alloy called "Nordic gold", which is an alloy of copper, aluminum, zinc and tin. The 10 cent coin has a diameter of 19.75 mm and a weight of 4.10 grams. The 20 cent coin measures 22.25 mm in diameter and weighs 5.74 grams, while the 50 cent coin has a diameter of 24.25 mm and a weight of 7.80 grams. The 1 and 2 euro coins are bimetallic. The 1 euro coin has a diameter of 23.25 mm and a weight of 7.50 grams. It consists of a central part made of cupronickel and a ring made of nickel brass. The 2 euro coin has a diameter of 25.75 mm and a weight of 8.50 grams. It is also bimetallic, with a central part made of nickel brass and a ring made of cupronickel. All the coins are presented in their original quality, i.e. in an "Uncirculated" (UNC) state, which means that they have never been put into circulation and retain their new and intact appearance.
