This 2 euro commemorative coin from the Vatican, issued in 2017, honors the 1950th anniversary of the martyrdom of Saints Peter and Paul. Struck in bimetal, it weighs 8.5 grams and has a diameter of 25.75 millimeters. This coin was issued in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) quality.
The obverse of the coin depicts the figures of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, each identifiable by their traditional attributes: the keys for Peter and the sword for Paul. The upper part of the coin features the semi-circular inscription "CITTÀ DEL VATICANO". Similarly, the lower part displays the inscription "1950o DEL MARTIRIO DEI SANTI PIETRO E PAOLO", commemorating the anniversary of the martyrdom. The year of issue, "2017", is discreetly positioned in the lower left part, while the mint mark "R" is in the lower right part. The artist's name, "G. TITOTTO", is also inscribed between these two elements.
The reverse of the coin features a map of the European continent, superimposed on a dynamic background composed of the twelve stars of the European Union. The face value, "2 EURO", is clearly indicated. The edge of the coin is finely reeded and bears the inscription "2 *" repeated six times, with alternating orientation from bottom to top and top to bottom.
The coin is presented in a case. The coin's composition is bimetallic.
