Coin Vatican City State 2 Euros Commémo. Vatican 550e anniversaire de la naissance de Michel-Ange

This 2 euro commemorative coin was issued by the Vatican in 2025. It celebrates the 550th anniversary of the birth of Michelangelo. The coin is bimetallic, weighing 8.5 grams and with a diameter of 25.75 millimeters. The mintage is limited to 80,000 copies.

The main motif of the coin depicts the dome of St. Peter's Basilica, an architectural work designed by Michelangelo, who worked on it until his death in 1564. Below the dome, a section of the vault of the Sistine Chapel, divided and adorned with frescoes by Michelangelo, is also represented.

On the left side of the coin, arranged vertically, is Michelangelo's autograph signature, spelled 'michelagniolo'. The letter 'R', identifying the Mint of Rome, and the name of the coin's designer, 'D. LONGO' (Daniela Longo), are also present. The legend 'CITTA? DEL VATICANO', indicating the issuing State, is arranged in an arc above the dome. Just below, the years '1475', the year of Michelangelo's birth, and '2025', the year of issue, are inscribed.

The outer ring of the coin is decorated with the 12 stars of the European flag.
