This 2 euro commemorative coin, issued by the Vatican in 2018, marks the 50th anniversary of the death of Padre Pio, which occurred in 1968. The coin is struck in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) quality, demonstrating meticulous preservation.
The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Padre Pio. The inscriptions "CITTA' DEL VATICANO" and the years "1968 2018" frame the portrait. The signature "P. DANIELE VDS INC" and the letter "R", marking the mint, are also present. The name "Padre Pio" completes the main motif.
The reverse of the coin is common to all 2 euro coins. It features a stylized map of the European continent, superimposed on a dynamic background formed by the twelve stars of the European Union. The face value "2 EURO" is clearly indicated. The initials "LL" of the engraver Luc Luycx also appear on this side.
The coin is bimetallic, with a center made of a different alloy than the outer ring. It weighs 8.5 grams and has a diameter of 25.75 millimeters. The edge of the coin features a fine and regular engraving. The inscription "2 * " is repeated six times, with alternating orientation from bottom to top and top to bottom, creating a distinctive pattern on the edge.
