The 2 euro commemorative coin issued by the Vatican City State in 2019 celebrates the 90th anniversary of the foundation of the Vatican State. This coin is minted in BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) quality.
The coin is bimetallic, with a center made of a different alloy than the outer ring. Its weight is 8.5 grams and its diameter is 25.75 millimeters.
The obverse of the coin depicts Pope Pius XI, who was the sovereign of the Vatican State at its foundation in 1929, as well as the Lateran Palace in Rome. In a semicircle, along the upper edge, the inscription "STATO DELLA CITTÀ DEL VATICANO" can be read. The years "1929" and "2019" are inscribed at the bottom, and the artist's name, "FUSCO", is also present.
The reverse of the coin features a map of the European continent, superimposed on a dynamic background composed of the twelve stars of the European Union. The face value, "2 EURO", is indicated on this side. The engraver's initials, "LL", are also present.
The edge of the coin is finely reeded and bears the inscription "2 *", repeated six times, with an alternating orientation from bottom to top and top to bottom. The edge is engraved with the inscription "2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 *".
The engraver of the obverse is Daniele Fusco, while the engraver of the reverse is Luc Luycx.
