This 200 hryvnias banknote is issued by Ukraine for the year 2026. It is part of the series of Ukrainian banknotes highlighting iconic personalities and monuments of the national heritage.
The banknote is associated with two major cultural and historical references from Ukraine. The first is Lesia Ukrainka (1871?1913), whose real name was Larysa Petrivna Kossatch-Kvitka, one of the most important figures in Ukrainian literature. A poet, playwright and translator, she is considered one of the great voices of Ukrainian romanticism and modernism. Her work, produced despite fragile health throughout her life, earned her a central place in Ukrainian national culture.
The second reference is Lutsk Castle, also known as Lubart Castle, located in the city of Lutsk in western Ukraine. This medieval castle, whose construction dates mainly from the 14th and 15th centuries, is one of the best-preserved examples of medieval fortified architecture in Ukraine. It takes its name from the Lithuanian prince Lubart, who oversaw its construction and made it his main residence. The castle, comprising three towers connected by brick ramparts, is a powerful symbol of the Volhynia region.
Both elements ? the poetess and the historic monument ? traditionally appear on Ukrainian banknotes of this denomination. The 200 hryvnias banknote thus represents an intermediate denomination within the Ukrainian monetary system, the hryvnia being Ukraine's official currency since 1996.
This banknote can be referenced and identified on the numismatic database Numista, under reference 561650, which catalogues banknotes from around the world alongside coins.
