The coin depicts a magnificent view of Venice, taken from Canaletto's work "Veduta del bacino di San Marco dalla Punta della Dogana" (1740-1745), preserved at the Brera Art Gallery. The artist was one of the leaders of the veduta genre, which enjoyed exceptional international success in the 18th century and found its greatest expressions in representations of the lagoon city: having become the symbol of the rich and serene city, Venice was immortalized in the splendor of its palaces and in the grandeur of its churches overlooking the water, in a timeless atmosphere illuminated by a typical and sparkling light. The use of the "camera ottica" is specific to Canaletto's pictorial practice.
