The coin celebrates the greatest exponent of Renaissance culture: Leon Battista Alberti, writer, architect, teacher, art theorist and scholar. The reverse of the coin depicts the façade of Rimini Cathedral, commonly known as the ‘Tempio Malatestiano’ (Malatestian Temple), whose exterior architecture was designed by Leon Battista Alberti using an innovative cladding of Istrian stone, inspired by the forms of the classical temple and the technical knowledge of triumphal arches.
