This 2 euro commemorative coin, issued by San Marino in 2023, celebrates the 500th anniversary of the death of Pietro Vannucci, better known as Perugino.
The coin is bimetallic, with a center made of nickel brass and a ring made of cupronickel. It weighs 8.5 grams and has a diameter of 25.75 mm, with a thickness of 2.20 mm. The edge is reeded and bears the inscription of a 2 followed by a star, repeated six times, alternating upright and inverted.
The main motif on the obverse is a detail from Perugino's painting "Virgin and Child with Saint Sebastian and Saint John the Baptist", kept at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. It shows the Virgin Mary holding the Infant Jesus. The inscription "PERUGINO" appears on the coin, along with the dates "1523" and "2023". The letter "R", identifying the Mint of Rome, is also present on the left. On the right, there is the inscription "SAN MARINO" as well as the initials "MAC" of the author, Maria Angela Cassol. The twelve stars of the European Union are arranged around the central motif.
This coin was struck in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) quality and is presented in an official blister. The mintage is limited to 56,000 copies.
