 Mintage: only 70,500 copies (instead of 85,000 copies in 2016).
 Bi-metallic (centre in maillechort - ring in cupronickel) - 8.5 g - 25.75 mm in diameter - 2.20 mm thick.

 Edge: reeded and inscribed with a 2 followed by a star, repeated six times alternating obverse and reverse.

 Pupil of Cimabue, Giotto is counted among the greatest Italian painters, initiator of a new style of Italian figurative art. The frescoes of the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi representing the Stories of Saint Francis, the Cross of Santa Maria Novella in Florence, the frescoes of the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua and the Basilica of Santa Croce in Florence are among his most famous works. He was also a renowned architect; appointed architect of the Opera del Duomo in Florence, Giotto built the bell tower that bears his name.

 The Republic of San Marino celebrates the 750th anniversary of Giotto's birth by issuing a 2 euro commemorative. The obverse of the coin produced by Luciana De Simoni depicts a detail of the tower of Florence Cathedral* on the left and a portrait of Giotto on the right.

 *Giotto's Campanile is the bell tower of Santa Maria del Fiore, the cathedral of Florence in Tuscany, with a 13th-century dome.
