The Europa series begins a new cycle, alluding to the ?ages of Europe? and reflecting the European artistic movements of the Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Iron and Glass Ages and Modernism, the theme chosen for this year. The piece produced by the INCM was designed by sculptor Rui Vasquez based on a self-portrait by Almada Negreiros, one of the precursors of what is known as Portuguese Modernism, which accompanied the avant-garde of European arts and letters at the beginning of the 20th century, breaking with the past and with all the traditional or classical marks of culture and society.
