The Portugal BU Euro coin set, dated 2009, brings together all eight euro denominations issued by the country for that specific year. Each coin, ranging from 1 cent to 2 euros, is struck with Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) quality, giving them a neat appearance and a striking quality superior to that of coins in general circulation.
The year of issue, 2009, is an important date for the Eurozone, as it marks the tenth anniversary of the Economic and Monetary Union and the launch of the euro currency. The coins contained in this set are therefore representative of this period of European history.
The 1, 2 and 5 cent coins share a common design representing the first royal seal of 1134, surrounded by castles and coats of arms, symbols of Portuguese national identity. The 10, 20 and 50 cent coins bear the royal seal of 1142, while the 1 and 2 euro coins display the royal castles and coats of arms, arranged in a way that evokes a map of Portugal. The outer ring of the 2 euro coins is adorned with the twelve stars of the European Union.
The set is presented in a specially designed case to protect and showcase the coins. This case is a numismatic setting that ensures the preservation of the coins in their original condition. The mintage of this set is limited to 20,000 copies, making it a collectible item sought after by numismatists interested in the euro and the monetary history of Portugal.
