 On July 17, 2014, at 3:18 PM, the lives of thousands of people changed forever. Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, en route to Kuala Lumpur, was hit by a Russian missile over Ukraine. The 298 passengers, of 17 different nationalities, died in atrocious conditions. The news touched not only fathers, mothers, spouses, children, grandchildren, grandparents, siblings, friends, and colleagues, but also the rest of the Netherlands, which is in mourning.
 
 The MH17 air disaster already dates back 10 years in 2024, but it is still relevant. Relatives of the victims continue to fight for justice to be done. Measures have already been taken in this regard, but the pain and sorrow will never subside. The 2024 Coin Day set is therefore dedicated to those who lost their lives innocently on July 17, 2014. 
 
 
 Coin Day 2024 pays tribute to the victims of this dark day in 2014. The packaging features several images, including the MH17 National Monument and images of the arrival of the victims in the Netherlands. In addition to the eight Dutch euro coins, you will also receive a medal. On the obverse of the medal, we see a man holding a flag: he is looking at an arriving plane. This is one of the most famous photos of MH17, taken upon the arrival of the plane carrying the victims of the air disaster. On the side, we can read the text "WE REMEMBER MH17 ? 17 JULY 2014". On the reverse, we see flowers, with a sunflower in the center. Sunflowers can also be found at the National Monument. In the center of the flower, we can read "MH17".
