The Dutch euro coins feature two different designs. Each features the effigy of Queen Beatrix by Bruno Ninaber van Eyben. All the designs feature the twelve stars of the European Union. In addition to the year of issue, the coins bear the inscription BEATRIX KONINGIN DER NEDERLANDEN (Beatrix Queen of the Netherlands). This inscription appears in an arc on the cent coins and vertically on the ?1 and ?2 coins, as on the old guilder.
