The 5 euro coin "200 years of the Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution" (KNRM) was designed by Coralie Vogelaar, in collaboration with designer Hendrik-Jan Grievink. The obverse of the coin depicts the King of the Netherlands Willem-Alexander. He is seen looking at the peaceful coast of the North Sea, his gaze fixed on the horizon. In the upper part, the text "Willem-Alexander, Koning der Nederlanden" begins and continues in a semicircle. On the reverse of the coin, the sea shows itself in a very different light: the turbulent and wild waves carry the silhouette of a KNRM rescue boat with two volunteers on board. When the coin moves, the light changes, which further accentuates the dynamics of the sea. The text "Koninklijke Nederlandse Redding Maatschappij 1824 - 2024" is also on the reverse, as are the private mark and the mint mark.
