This commemorative 2 euro coin, issued by the Principality of Monaco in 2021, features a distinctive design and specific technical characteristics.
The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Prince Albert II, sovereign of Monaco since 2005. This central representation is framed by the twelve stars symbolizing the European Union, arranged on the outer ring of the coin. The design of the obverse is attributed to the engraver Pierre Jauvaudin.
The reverse of the coin features a map of the European continent, superimposed on a dynamic background composed of the twelve stars of the European Union. This representation is the work of the engraver Luc Luycx.
The coin is made using a bimetallic technique. The center is composed of nickel brass, an alloy comprising 75% copper, 20% zinc and 5% nickel, with a layer of nickel between two layers of nickel brass. The outer ring is made of cupronickel, composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel.
The edge of the coin features fine grooves interrupted by a repeated sequence of two stars, appearing six times, alternately oriented upwards and downwards.
The coin weighs 8.5 grams and has a diameter of 25.75 millimeters, with a thickness of 2.20 millimeters. Its orientation is of the "medal strike" type. The strike quality is UNC (Uncirculated).
