The 2 euro Albert II coin, issued by Monaco in 2012, is a commemorative circulation coin. Its face value is two euros. The coin is struck in bimetal, with a weight of 8.5 grams and a diameter of 25.75 millimeters.
The obverse of the coin features, in the outer ring, the twelve stars symbolizing the European Community. The center of the coin features the portrait of Prince Albert II, sovereign of Monaco since 2005. Below the portrait is the inscription "MONACO" followed by the year of issue, "2012". The design of the obverse is the work of engraver Pierre Jauvaudin.
The reverse of the coin is common to all two-euro coins in circulation in the euro zone. It depicts a map of the European continent, superimposed on a dynamic background composed of the twelve stars of the European Union. The engraver of this design is Luc Luycx.
The edge of the coin is finely milled. This coin was struck at the Paris Mint. The total mintage of this edition amounts to 1,032,052 copies.
