The obverse of the coin features the crowned coat of arms of the Principality of Monaco. The legend "PRINCIPAUTE DE MONACO" is inscribed in capital letters around the coat of arms, following the curve of the coin. The engraver of this side is Georges Simon.

The reverse of the coin shows an upright olive branch, which divides the face value and the date. The face value "1 Cme" is positioned to the left of the branch, while the letter "S" is engraved in the center below the "Cme", probably the initial of the engraver's name. The date "1978" is inscribed to the right of the branch. Georges Simon is also the engraver of this side.
