In 1977, the Central Bank of Malta launched its first collector coin, named Maltese Bee. This exceptional coin was created to commemorate the honey bee (Apis mellifera ruttneri), a species native to the Maltese islands. This bee plays a crucial role in the pollination process and honey production, making it essential to the local ecosystem.

To honour this monetary tradition, Germania Mint has developed a modern interpretation of the original coin. The new design features a unique shape, meticulous craftsmanship and artistic elegance.
