The accession to the throne of Grand Duke Henri in October 2000 accompanied the turn of the millennium. On October 7 of that year, he succeeded Grand Duke Jean and took the oath before the Chamber of Deputies. Representing the State, he is the symbol of the unity of the territory and Luxembourg's national independence. Throughout his reign, Grand Duke Henri has always defended the values of tolerance, respect, dignity and solidarity.
