To mark the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Monnaie de Paris is paying tribute to this renowned international competition and honouring the Olympic Torch.
The Torch of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games is much more than a simple object. A powerful symbol, it embodies the spirit of the Games by carrying the Olympic and Paralympic Flames, spreading a message of peace and unity.
The Torch, lit according to tradition in Olympia, will cross the Mediterranean Sea to arrive in Marseille, France, on 8 May 2024, marking the start of four months of festivities.
The design of the Torch reflects the values of Paris 2024, with a unique colour inspired by equality, water and peace. It thus becomes the central element of the celebrations, from the Olympic Torch Relay on 8 May 2024 to the closing of the Paralympic Games on 8 September 2024. Created as an objet d'art, the Torch represents the unique identity of Paris 2024, combining tradition and modernity, carrying the Olympic legacy while celebrating contemporary values.
The torch is a powerful symbol of the Olympic Games. It marks the opening of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
On the front, Marianne, the symbol of the French Republic, is depicted as if she were in motion, holding the Olympic torch of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The flame dancing at the top of the torch symbolises the passionate spirit and determination of the athletes.
In the background, an athletics track stretches out, a reminder of sport.
The reverse, common to the series since 2021, shows a view of Paris where the Seine takes on the appearance of an athletics track. The Eiffel Tower dominates the city and illuminates the competition.
