In the exciting world of numismatics, few names inspire as much admiration and enthusiasm as those of John Mercanti and Joaquin Jimenez. The result of their collaboration on a single coin perfectly embodies the long-standing Franco-American friendship. This collection beautifully celebrates the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026.
Joaquin Jimenez, head of the engraving workshop at the Monnaie de Paris since 2008 and General Engraver since 2020, is recognized worldwide for his original and elegant monetary creations. France owes him many coins, francs or euros, such as the recent national faces of ?1 and ?2, and 10, 20 and 50 cents.
John Mercanti joined the United States Mint in 1974. He officially held the position of Chief Engraver for one year, until his retirement in 2010. He is the employee who designed the most coins and medals in the history of the United States Mint, including the reverse of the famous American bullion: the American Silver Eagle.
This meeting between two general engravers in a joint work sublimates national symbols. Each engraver interprets the symbols of his counterpart's country: a coin representing the Sower by John Mercanti and Lady Liberty by Joaquin Jimenez.

The obverse of this coin represents Lady Liberty designed by Joaquin Jimenez. It is a clever mix of reinterpretation and conservation of codes. Indeed, like the original engraving, this Lady Liberty looks to the left, holds the American flag and is dressed in a loose dress. Joaquin adds his touch by lending her a determined and proud expression, with an eagle flying by her side. She holds her flag by the ends of her arms, as if free; an effect accentuated by the crown of the Statue of Liberty that she wears on her head. A multitude of stars intertwine in the background. They mingle with each other, illustrating the union of the American states.

The reverse of the collection is designed by John Mercanti. The Sower stands in front of the French flag, her gaze directed towards the acronym RF positioned to her right. Her attitude is calmer, her bag of seeds has been transformed into a dome, and the fruit of her seed is symbolized by the ears of wheat that grow at her sides, as if the cultural and economic influence of France represented by the seeds she sows had borne fruit. The face value and the different marks are inscribed on a platform, similar to the one on which the original Lady Liberty rests her foot, and the vintage is located just above.
