Because Normandy would not have been liberated without the Allied nations, the Monnaie de Paris wanted to pay tribute to this historic event through several stories. The coins in this collection are dedicated to 4 soldiers from the 4 major Allied nations who landed in Normandy on June 6, 1944. These 4 fictional heroes embody the story of soldiers who actually fought during the Normandy landings.

Fred, a lieutenant in the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, nicknamed the "Little Black Devils," is part of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division. He landed on Sword Beach in Graye, near Courseulles. He poses in front of the beach, where you can see a Churchill AVRE tank, two soldiers from his unit holding the Canadian flag of the time, and a traditional house from the landscape of the Côte de Nacre.

As part of the 7th Canadian Infantry Brigade, 3rd Canadian Infantry Division, the Royal Winnipeg Rifles were among the first Allied troops to land along the northern coast of France on D-Day, June 6, 1944, and participated throughout the Normandy campaign, fighting in numerous battles including those of Caen and the Falaise Pocket.

The reverse of this coin highlights all the Allied countries that officially participated in the Normandy landings, surrounding the face value and the RF mention. Clockwise: Free France, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Australia, United States, Norway, United Kingdom,
Czechoslovakia, Canada, Belgium. The stars under the flags are also a tribute to the "Liberty Road", kilometer markers marking the route followed by the 3rd American Army for the liberation of France to Luxembourg.
