The France 2017 Euro Proof Set is a numismatic collection issued by the Monnaie de Paris. It contains the complete series of euro coins minted in BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) quality for the year 2017. Each coin features the technical characteristics and designs specific to French minting, while respecting the common specifications for the Eurozone.
The set includes all eight euro face values: 1 cent, 2 cents, 5 cents, 10 cents, 20 cents, 50 cents, 1 euro, and 2 euros. The 1-cent to 5-cent coins are made of copper-plated steel, displaying the portrait of Marianne, symbol of the French Republic, wearing the Phrygian cap. The 10-cent, 20-cent, and 50-cent coins are made of nickel brass (an alloy of copper, nickel, and zinc), and feature the sower motif, an allegorical figure created by Oscar Roty. The 1-euro and 2-euro coins are bimetallic. The 1-euro coin has an outer ring of cupro-nickel and a center of nickel brass, while the 2-euro coin has an outer ring of nickel brass and a center of cupro-nickel. The design of the tree of life, stylized by Joaquim Jimenez, adorns the national side of the 1-euro coin, while the 2-euro coin depicts a commemorative design specific to the year 2017.
The set is presented in a specially designed case by the Monnaie de Paris, ensuring the protection and enhancement of the coins. The total weight of the set is 95 grams. The year of issue, 2017, is indicated on each coin, as well as the various symbols of the Monnaie de Paris and the general engraver. The fineness of the coins corresponds to Euro standards, with specific alloys for each face value. The mintage of this BU set is limited, making it a collector's item prized by numismatists.
