The great wealth of pictorial art in France over several centuries was an opportunity for Monnaie de Paris to start a new series that pays tribute to the greatest of the masterpieces in our museums. The different currents and influences - Renaissance Baroque Impressionism... - are celebrated. Each year, several works are given pride of place. In 2022, the collection will be enriched by Monet's "Bassin aux Nymphéas - Harmonie verte" and this 100 gram silver note.

The face depicts one of Claude Monet's most famous works: "Le Bassin aux Nymphéas Harmonie Verte" painted in
1899 depicting a bridge over a water lily pond. The "masterpiece of museums" stamp, which is used on all the coins in this series, has been added to the top right-hand corner and blends in with the painting. The Musée d'Orsay, where it is exhibited, is an integral part of the drawing, representing one of the sections of the frame. The name of the work, the artist's name and the year 2022 complete the decor around the painting.

The reverse is common to the series and features a mixture of views of several major French museums: top left is an interior view of the Musée d'Orsay, recognisable by its superb clock. Next to it is a view of the façade of the Louvre, visible from the Cour Napoléon (where the famous pyramid is located). Below these two elements is a fresco on the Hôtel Salé, which houses the Musée Picasso. The lower part of the reverse shows a view of the façade of the Hôtel Biron, now the Musée Rodin. Above this is the famous staircase of the Centre Pompidou. The face value and the words "République Française" are also inscribed on this reverse.
