Bringing together the largest international automobile racing teams, the 24 Hours of Le Mans race is an endurance event where drivers take turns day and night for 24 hours to cover the greatest possible distance on the Circuit de la Sarthe. Created in 1923, this race has been an important driver of technical progress for racing cars but also for mass-produced vehicles. 100 years after the first edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the world's greatest endurance race celebrates 100 years of emotions, speed and performance. To mark this centenary, the Monnaie de Paris pays tribute to this mythical competition by creating a brand new trophy for the occasion and by striking a collection of gold and silver coins.

On the face of this collector coin are two racing cars inscribed in a 24-hour chronograph. The inverted polishing on the top of the coin makes it possible to differentiate day from night, providing additional contrast and depth of reading. The headlights of the vehicle driving at night highlight the ?100? of the centenary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans while illuminating the way beyond this edition of the competition.

On the reverse, there are two portraits of drivers facing each other. The face on the left evokes a driver from the beginning of the 20th century participating in the first edition of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest's endurance grand prix, while the face on the right marks the evolution of a century of motor racing. The layout of the 24 Hours circuit acts here as a mirror, a window opening onto the past but also onto the future.
