The 1997 BU set ? French circulating coins is a continuation of the issues from the end of the franc, a few years before its replacement by the euro. It brings together coins intended for daily circulation, but presented in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) quality, offering a more careful finish and better preservation than circulated examples.
This series includes the main denominations in francs used at that time. It features emblematic types of modern French currency, notably the Sower, a strong republican symbol, as well as other motifs illustrating culture, science and national values. The whole forms a homogeneous series, representative of the French monetary landscape of the 1990s.
Technically, BU quality is characterised by precise striking, with sharp reliefs and regular surfaces. The coins are packaged in a protective box or blister, guaranteeing their original condition and limiting any alteration. This presentation makes it a product specifically intended for collectors.
From a historical point of view, this set belongs to the period preceding the introduction of the euro, in a context where European monetary systems are beginning to converge. It thus constitutes a testimony to the last years of circulation of the French franc, still fully used at that date.
For the collector, the 1997 BU set represents a coherent and accessible ensemble, interesting both for its striking quality and for its place in the chronology of the end of the franc. Specimens preserved in their original packaging are naturally the most sought after.
