This numismatic set includes the eight euro coins issued by France in 2003, ranging from 1 cent to 2 euros. Each coin features a national face specific to France, while respecting the common European face.
The 1, 2, and 5 cent coins are struck in copper-plated steel. They bear the portrait of Marianne, symbol of the French Republic, designed by Fabienne Courtiade. The face value is clearly indicated, surrounded by stars, elements of the European flag.
The 10, 20, and 50 cent coins are made of « Nordic Gold ». They depict the sower, an allegorical figure from French numismatic history, revisited here by Laurent Jorio. The mention "RF" (République Française) is also visible.
The 1 and 2 euro coins are bimetallic. The 1 euro coin has an outer ring in cupro-nickel and a center in nickel brass. The 2 euro coin, on the other hand, has an outer ring in nickel brass and a center in cupro-nickel. On these two coins, there is a stylized tree, the work of Joaquin Jimenez, symbolizing life and growth, inserted in a hexagon. The motto "Liberté Egalité Fraternité" is inscribed. Twelve stars represent the European Union.
All the coins in this series bear the year 2003, indicating the year of minting. The total weight of the series is 95 grams. These coins were produced by the Monnaie de Paris.
