The 50 euro cent coin, minted in France in 2003, is a Proof quality bimetallic coin from an official numismatic set.
The coin is made of a yellow-colored alloy called "Nordic Gold". It weighs 7.80 grams and its diameter is 24.25 millimeters. Its edge is finely reeded.
The national side of the coin depicts the Sower, an allegorical figure of the French Republic. This representation symbolizes freedom, progress and the continuity of the nation.
The common side of the coin features a map of Europe as well as the face value "50 EURO CENT". This side is identical for all 50 euro cent coins issued by the countries of the euro zone.
The Proof quality of this coin is distinguished by its perfectly polished mirror fields and its sharp, contrasting matte reliefs. The minting is carried out with specially prepared dies, which gives it a superior finish to that of ordinary circulation coins.
The mintage of this coin in Proof quality is limited to 40,000 copies, corresponding to the number of France 2003 Proof sets produced.
