The Belgian BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) numismatic set, issued in 2006, includes all the standard euro coins issued that year, from 1 cent to 2 euros. Each coin has the standardized technical characteristics for the Eurozone, particularly in terms of dimensions, weight and metallic composition.
The 1, 2 and 5 cent coins are generally made of copper-plated steel, giving them a characteristic reddish color. The 10, 20 and 50 cent coins are made from an alloy of copper, aluminum, zinc and tin, commonly called 'Nordic gold', giving them a golden color. The 1 and 2 euro coins are bimetallic: the 1 euro coin is composed of a cupro-nickel center and a brass-nickel ring, while the 2 euro coin has a brass-nickel center and a cupro-nickel ring.
Each coin features the Belgian national design on its face, which may vary depending on the year of issue. The common face, meanwhile, is identical to that used by other countries in the Eurozone. The set also includes a commemorative medal, the design and materials of which may vary.
The BU condition guarantees that the coins have not circulated and that they have a shiny, flawless appearance, as they were originally minted. The whole set is presented in a box specially designed to protect and showcase the coins and the medal, offering collectors a way to preserve and display these numismatic items in optimal conditions.
