The design depicts the Principality and its coat of arms, with two arrows intersecting to represent the customs union between Andorra and the European Union. Also shown are 1990, the year in which this union was established, and 2015, the year of issue of the coin and the anniversary of this agreement. Andorra is not a member of the European Union, but following this customs union a monetary agreement was signed allowing the issue of euros. The Principality is preparing an association agreement that would allow the free movement of goods and people with the Union.
