This 2 euro commemorative coin was issued by the Vatican in 2005 to mark the 20th World Youth Day held in Cologne. The coin is made of bimetal, weighing 8.5 grams and with a diameter of 25.75 millimeters.
The obverse of the coin features a representation of Cologne Cathedral, flown over by a comet. The upper part of the outer ring is adorned with the twelve stars, symbols of the European Union. The inscription "XX GIORNATA MONDIALE DELLA GIOVENTÙ" can be read, as well as "CITTÀ DEL VATICANO" and the year of issue, "2005". The letter "R" is also present, indicating the mint mark. The engraver of this face is Ettore Lorenzo Frapiccini.
The reverse of the coin displays a map representing the fifteen States of the European Union, united on a dynamic background composed of the twelve stars of the European Union. The face value, "2 EURO", is also indicated, accompanied by the initials "LL" of the engraver Luc Luycx.
The edge of the coin is finely reeded and bears the inscription "2 *", repeated six times, with alternating orientations from bottom to top and from top to bottom.
It is important to note that the coin case is slightly damaged.
