 On July 8, 2013, Rio de Janeiro hosted the 28th World Youth Day. This time the Christ the Redeemer was not only the most famous and beloved symbol of the Brazilian city but also that of a global meeting that brought together more than two million young people and "his open arms are the sign of the welcome that the Lord will reserve for all those who come to Him" (Benedict XVI, October 18, 2012).
