Description
This Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) set was issued by Slovakia in 2020 and represents the fourth instalment of an annual series. It is dedicated to Jozef Maximilian Petzval, a Slovak physicist and mathematician born in 1807 in Spi?ská Belá, internationally recognised for his groundbreaking work in optics and for designing the photographic lens that bears his name. His research profoundly influenced the development of photography in the 19th century.
The set brings together all Slovak euro coins struck in Brilliant Uncirculated quality for the year 2020, covering the various denominations of the current series. This finish guarantees coins produced from carefully prepared dies, featuring the smooth and shiny surfaces characteristic of this level of minting.
The issue is limited to a mintage of 2,000 copies, making it a relatively exclusive edition within Slovakia's annual coin production. This low mintage reflects the selective nature of this type of set, aimed at collectors and enthusiasts of thematic series dedicated to great national figures.
It should be noted that the sleeve of this set is damaged. This condition affects the outer packaging of the set and not the coins themselves, which retain their Brilliant Uncirculated quality. This should be taken into account depending on the collector's sensitivity to the overall condition of the original packaging, particularly for those wishing to keep the set in impeccable presentation condition.
Slovakia has been part of the eurozone since 2009 and issues BU sets every year honouring outstanding figures from its cultural, scientific or historical heritage. Jozef Maximilian Petzval is in this respect an iconic personality, whose scientific legacy extends well beyond Slovakia's national borders.
