Description

The 2008 San Marino BU Euro coin set was issued in 2008 to mark the International Year of Planet Earth, an initiative proclaimed by the United Nations aimed at raising awareness of Earth sciences and their applications for the benefit of humanity.

San Marino, as a micro-state landlocked within the Italian peninsula, holds its own minting rights under its monetary agreement with the European Union. As such, the Republic of San Marino issues complete euro coin series each year in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) quality, intended primarily for collectors and numismatic enthusiasts.

Brilliant Uncirculated quality refers to a striking standard superior to regular circulation quality, achieved through the use of carefully prepared dies and selected blanks. The coins display smooth and lustrous surfaces with sharp, well-defined reliefs, free from the handling marks typically found on circulated coins.

This set includes all denominations of the San Marino euro series for the year 2008, ranging from 1 cent to 2 euros. The national sides of San Marinese coins feature designs related to the cultural, historical and artistic heritage of the Republic, while the common sides conform to the standards defined by the eurozone.

The mintage of this set is limited to 50,000 pieces, making it a restricted-circulation issue on a European scale. This production volume, characteristic of San Marino's issues, contrasts significantly with the mintages of the larger eurozone member states, lending these sets a degree of relative scarcity on the numismatic market.

The official packaging ensures the coins are protected against oxidation and mechanical shocks, preserving their optimal condition exactly as they left the State Mint of San Marino.
