José Xavier Mouzinho da Silveira (1780-1849) was a reformer and Portuguese politician, famous for modernizing Portugal's administration and fiscal system in the 19th century. As Minister of Finance, he abolished feudal privileges and certain taxes, contributing to better wealth distribution and administrative centralization. During the Liberal Wars, he supported the liberal forces against the absolutist King Miguel I, working with Dom Pedro IV to restructure the country. Despite his contributions, he was forced into exile in France after the civil war, but his legacy of reforms remained deeply rooted in Portugal.
