The Central Bank of Malta has issued a commemorative €2 coin depicting the Hypogeum of Hal Saflieni. This coin is the seventh in a series of seven dedicated to the prehistoric sites of the Maltese islands, which are on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The reverse of the coin shows the common face of the €2 coin. The obverse (national side), designed by Noel Galea Bason, depicts the temples of Tarxien.
Edge: striated and inscribed with a succession of the numeral "2", right side up and upside down, separated by two Maltese Crosses which are always positioned in the same direction, repeated six times.
