This coin is a silver 1 Yen, issued by Japan in 1870, corresponding to year 3 of the Meiji era. It is classified as a common circulation coin and was in Yen, the currency in effect from 1871.

The coin is composed of silver with a fineness of 900?, supplemented by 10% copper. It weighs 26.96 grams and has a diameter of 38.58 millimeters. It is round in shape.

The obverse of the coin features a dragon depicted within a beaded circle. Legends are inscribed above the dragon, while the face value of the coin is indicated below.

The reverse of the coin features a radiant sun, also integrated into a beaded circle. This central motif is surrounded by representations of paulownia and chrysanthemum flowers. An imperial crest is placed at the top, flanked on either side by paulownia flowers.

The issuer of this coin is Japan, under the reign of Emperor Meiji (1867-1912). The year of issue, 3 of the Meiji era, corresponds to the year 1870 of the Gregorian calendar. The mintage of this coin is 3,685,049 copies.
