Marque de patine au dos de la pièce

This 5-euro coin was issued by Italy in 2021 to commemorate the Alpine Ski World Championships held in Cortina d'Ampezzo, an international competition that took place in this famous resort in the Italian Dolomites, which had previously hosted the 1956 Winter Olympic Games. Cortina d'Ampezzo is one of Italy's most iconic ski destinations, and this world event represented a landmark moment for alpine sport.

Struck in silver, this coin has a weight of 18 grams and a diameter of 32 millimetres. It features a colourised finish, a technique that involves applying colours to all or part of the coin's surface in order to enhance its visual appearance and highlight the details of its design. This colourisation gives the coin a particularly detailed and vivid representation of the graphic elements associated with alpine skiing.

The example presented here shows traces of patina, a natural phenomenon of superficial oxidation typical of silver coins, which may affect the appearance of the surface without altering the definition of the motifs or the intrinsic quality of the metal.

The mintage of this issue is limited to 5,000 pieces, making it a coin with restricted circulation. This production limitation is characteristic of the commemorative issues of the Zecca Italiana, the Italian Mint, which regularly produces themed series intended for collectors.

The face value is 5 euros, making it legal tender in Italy, although its primary purpose is clearly numismatic. This coin is part of the tradition of Italian commemorative issues that combine quality silver, low mintage and national sporting or cultural themes.
