The 500 Francs banknote, issued on September 2, 1954, is a product of the Banque de France. It belongs to the G.36 series.
The front of the banknote features a portrait of Victor Hugo on the right. In the background, a representation of the Pantheon is visible. The face value of 500 francs is written out in words and numbers. The inscriptions are written in the Latin alphabet.
Engravers Jules Piel and André Marliat contributed to the creation of this banknote, while the design is the work of Clément Serveau.
The back of the banknote depicts Victor Hugo on the left. In the background, we see his apartment located on Place des Vosges. Various legal inscriptions relating to criminal penalties for counterfeiting banknotes are also present, written in the Latin alphabet.
Robert Armanelli is the engraver of the back, and the design is also by Clément Serveau.
The watermark integrated into the banknote represents a front view of Victor Hugo's head.
