The 500 Francs banknote, issued on January 7, 1954, is a product of the Banque de France. This banknote is part of the V.8 series. The face value is 500 francs.
The front of the banknote features a portrait of Victor Hugo on the right. In the background, a representation of the Panthéon can be seen. The inscriptions include the mention "BANQUE DE FRANCE" and the value "500 CINQ CENTS FRANCS". The engravers responsible for this part of the banknote are Jules Piel and André Marliat, while the design is the work of Clément Serveau.
On the back, Victor Hugo is again represented, this time on the left. The background illustrates his apartment located on Place des Vosges. There are also legal inscriptions, including Article 139 of the Penal Code, which stipulates the penalties for counterfeiting or falsifying banknotes. The engraver of this part of the banknote is Robert Armanelli, and the design is also by Clément Serveau.
The watermark of the banknote represents a head of Victor Hugo, seen from the front.
