This 50 New Francs banknote, Henri IV type, was issued on March 5, 1959. It belongs to series A.2 and was designed by Jean Lefeuvre. The engravings are the work of André Marliat (obverse) and Georges Léon Égalité Beltrand (reverse). Its dimensions are 160 mm in length and 85 mm in width.
The obverse of the banknote features a portrait of Henri IV in the center, with the Pont-Neuf visible in the background. The coat of arms of Paris is located on the left, while that of Béarn is on the right. The face value, "Cinquante Nouveaux Francs," is indicated in full, as well as the mention "Banque de France."
On the reverse, we again find the bust of Henri IV, this time accompanied by a representation of the Château de Pau on the right and a view of the Pyrenees on the left. The value "50" is printed, followed by the mention "Banque de France." A legal text is included, recalling the penalties incurred for counterfeiting or falsifying banknotes.
The watermark of this banknote represents Marie de Medici, visible in three-quarter view. The overall composition of the banknote combines emblematic elements of the life of Henri IV, such as landmarks and heraldic symbols.
